Internship Opportunities

Redefining Progress provides interns with the rewarding and challenging experience of being an active participant in shaping public policy and social change.

Internships typically follow the academic semester schedule. We accept both full-time and part-time interns, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for three months. (Some programs prefer a longer commitment.)

Redefining Progress has openings in the following programs:

Sustainable Economics

Policy Intern
The policy intern will track legislation and political developments in state-level tax shifting and expenditures. Assist in outreach and coalition building with environmental, business, and organized labor groups, legislators, executive staff, and press to explore the use of environmental fees and charges and other mechanisms to address the state budget crises. May include support for other sustainability initiatives.

Environmental Justice and Climate Change Initiative

EJCC Research Intern
Work closely with EJCC initiative project staff to coordinate communications with initiative partners throughout the U.S. and conduct initiative related research. The position requires excellent oral and written communications, web and library research skills, and the ability to work with a diverse array of people. Applicants should have an academic background in economics, political science, or environmental studies; strong writing skills; quantitative and/or qualitative research experience and/or skills (or strong interest/aptitude in acquiring them).

EJCC Internet Services Intern
Assist with HTML writing and production, web page layout and graphics for the expanding EJCC website, and social networking sites. The position requires web production skills, a good eye for design, strong writing skills, and good information organization skills. Internet research experience a plus.

EJCC Media & Communications Intern
The person who will succeed in this position is an impassioned, flexible, self-directed, team player who communicates clearly, frequently and positively with staff. Specifically, our media team will be behind and in front of cameras and laptops documenting the recent history and upcoming history-making waves of EJCC and its member organizations. On the docket: a fully interactive website and e-advocacy campaign, public relations strategizing for maximum benefit of affected communities and organizers on the ground, social networking for political education, potential media production and skills sharing workshops, redesigning of curriculum, creation of new tools and materials for climate justice organizing and civic engagement around policy.

Development and Communications

Development Intern
Redefining Progress is looking for a development and marketing intern to manage contacts, help design online fundraising appeals and printed collateral material, assist in writing foundation grant proposals, assist in donor data entry into Raiser's Edge, and help coordinate local community building and fundraising events. The development and marketing intern will gain experience in online marketing, fundraising appeal design, donor relationship management and Raiser's Edge donor database software skills. Experience with social networking sites and imaging software are highly preferred. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are required.

Communications Intern
Redefining Progress is looking for a communications intern to write fresh content for various social networking sites, help update RP's websites with content and images, assist in maintaining a media contact list, track and archive RP's media coverage, write and pitch new stories to the media, and help coordinate media events nationwide. The communications intern will gain experience in strategic communications, public relations, online marketing and office skills. Experience with html, social networking sites, and imaging software are strongly preferred, as are strong writing and organizational skills.
