The Genuine Progress Indicator has received a surge of attention in the U.S. and abroad, as the financial crisis has shown the dangers of a drive for unceasing GDP growth. One of the biggest challenges facing young and experienced teachers across the country is dealing with the issues that come with teaching in socio-economically challenged areas.   Why?   Because students in these areas often have unique needs that you wouldn’t normally encounter in more privileged areas where kids have access to more resources and opportunities, as well as a stable home life.   This is where the social-ecological model and ecological systems theory comes in.
