5 Branding Tips When Designing Your Logo

Choose Fonts Wisely

However, this is where many designers tend to slack. The typeface you choose showcases the personality of your brand. By choosing the wrong font, you are automatically going to send the wrong message about your company to new customers.

For example, whimsical handwritten fonts might not be the best if your business is more corporate and B2B oriented. On the other hand, if you design clothing for eco-friendly baby clothing, you want something soft that speaks to parents in a caring way. In this case, a serif font type might not be as relatable. The key is to focus on staying in the same lane as your brand.

Color Projects Feelings

When thinking about what colors you intend on using, think about what you want to make your customers feel. Specific colors project certain feelings. This means before someone learns what your company is about, they already have a preconceived notion about your business based on your branding and logo.

Yellow is known for having an optimistic feeling, while orange presents a level of confidence. Blue ignites a sense of dependability while red lifts a viewer’s energy. Figure out what you want others to feel when they think about your company. Try to avoid using too many colors in your logo design, as it can become overwhelming and makes the idea of consistency much more difficult. 

Use of Negative Space

Giving your logo room to breathe is significantly more pleasing to the eye than if you tried to cram too much into the space. Law firms with lengthy names, for instance, might use their initials to allow. This provides the logo a proper amount of white space while still being legible from afar. The use of white space in your design makes it easier to integrate it into various print materials as well.

Consistency Is Key

A company’s logo will be used in all of its print marketing collateral such as flyers, brochures, product labels, and point of purchase displays. Having a quality logo also means being consistent with your overall branding through every aspect of your company. This is what allows for brand recall that increases the likelihood of someone purchasing your product or service.

When designing your logo, think about how it can be translated throughout various different print displays. Create variations of your logo that remain within the consistency of your branding but give flexibility depending on what it’s being used for.
